We’ve listed down the frequently asked questions about the organization, feel free to look them up:
How is the AIESEC different from other organizations that provide internships?
Well, basically, the organization is not defined just by the internships it helps provide; rather, it offers young people various opportunities to discover and develop their potential. While an internship abroad is an indispensable part of the experience a young person can gain in AIESEC, it is closely linked to other experiences rather than apart from them.
What can one gain from the AIESEC Exchange Program?
The AIESEC Exchange Program offers a young student or a new graduate the opportunity to have an intense cultural experience in one of its 108 member-countries. Concretely, AIESEC in a student’s home country prepares them for the internship, while the section in the host country helps them apply for visa and work permit and organizes their accommodation. In addition, the host country members take care of the students as soon as they get there, make them familiar with the culture and organize events where they get to know other interns.
What does AIESEC NOT offer?
AIESEC does not provide internships like a factory sells its products. The organization cannot and do not want to grant you an internship in Sydney at Procter & Gamble from February 9 to August 9, if that is what you are looking for. Although there are internships at Procter & Gamble in our internship pool, this is not what AIESEC is all about. Rather, we demand applicants to be flexible concerning place, time and job description of their future internship. AIESEC internships do help students gain professional skills but more importantly, they are an opportunity to have an intense intercultural experience.
What are the requirements? Is there a selection process?
There are key requirements: Be a student or maximum 2 years after you finished your degree; Younger than age 30; Open-mindedness and interest toward other cultures; Passed the individual interview review board; Should there be a lot of applicants, AIESEC will not be able to consider every application; University marks are not considered.
I want to become a member of AIESEC. How long do I have to be a member before I am allowed to do an internship?
In general, the longer a student is a member, the better. They get to know the organization, its opportunities and tools better with every day they are members. However, students who are only interested in going on an exchange will be raised as short-term members. This means that during the metal detectors period you are looking for an internship you will have the opportunity to engage in AIESEC Stockholm, by going to conferences, trainings, and parties.
What types of internships are offered by AIESEC?
AISEC offers two kinds of internships: the Global Internship Program (GIP) and the Global Community Development Program (GCDP).
Where in the world does AIESEC offer internships?
In general, Swedish at home microdermabrasion students are quite welcome in most of the countries and readily employed. Of course, students will be competing with other students from all over the world. Most of the internships take place in Brazil, China, India, Turkey, and Eastern Europe. In these hard money lenders countries, finding an internship even of a short duration is very probable if you are fairly flexible and have the essential qualifications for the particular job. Unfortunately, there are hardly any internships available in the USA.
Internships usually take from 6 to 12 months; Development Traineeships are frequently shorter.
Will students undergoing internship receive a salary?
It is common for management or technical traineeships to be paid relative to the country’s GDP, this means that your salary will be enough to cover your tankless water heaters housing and living expenses. Salaries differ very much for development or education traineeships. Most of the time, accommodation and food are provided while a student intern receives, if any, only a small salary.
How much do I have to pay for such an internship?
The AIESEC exchange program fee is 2000 SEK. Other costs will be flight ticket, living expenses abroad and, if necessary, vaccinations.
What is the Review Board?
The RB is an interview that we conduct in which we determine whether a student is suitable for our program, how they perceive other countries, and whether their English skills are sufficient. This is essential because we guarantee certain qualities and competencies when we send students to work in our partner companies.
What is the Exchange Preparation Seminar?
The XPS is a seminar conducted by the AIESEC and run by experienced trainers. This is to prepare members for their internships and to give them useful tips and information. Furthermore, this will give them the opportunity to speak with AIESECers who have already returned from their internships.
Why participate in the XPS?
As an organization, one of AIESEC’s goals is to increase mutual understanding and tolerance globally. During an AIESEC internship a member gets a chance to live in a foreign culture and get to know it and its people and also represent their home country accordingly. In the past, there have been many interns that had negative experiences abroad because they did not get to know the people from the host country or because they could not cope with its culture (culture shock). Most of the time, these people quit their internships early and feel like never returning to that country again. The XPS will help the student-member prepare for the internship, to make friends abroad and create a support system.
Who will help me in my support country?
All the internships are based on a local committee nearby, which is there to help you during your internship. More concretely, the members of this hosting local committee organize your accommodation, pick you up from the airport/station, show you around in the city and accompany you to work on your first day. In addition, they will integrate you into their activities, organize events for you and the other interns and help you get to know the people and culture of your host country. If there should be any problems, there will always be someone to help you. We will keep in contact with you and support you in every possible way.
